In a world where billions of humans thrive and dominate, it is quite shocking to discover that each individual is created in a unique way which is totally different from every other person. In that light, it is not a surprising fact to note that clashes may arise with time, due to individual differences.
It is true that like poles repel and unlike poles attract but is same true for this human race? Overtime, we have noticed that people who have contrasting I characters experience more conflicts because each party feels he or she is always right and the other, wrong. Time and energy is spent and wasted when individuals try to prove their worth.
Dealing with individuals who have totally different behaviours from yours is quite herculean. This brings rise to the knowledge of temperaments.
When you are able to understand the way people act and why they act the way they do, you will have less problems with them. You will only have more issues if you haven’t discovered why your child is always quiet; why your wife talks a lot; why your brother likes partying; why your parents want you to always look neat, and so on, you will tend to be irritated by every of their character. Most times it seems as though everyone around you acts wierd all the time and you may feel like you’re the only sincere person. This is neither a disease nor a curse; it is just a part of life. It shows that you too, are human.
In real sense, it is true that like poles repel and unlike poles attract because, you may be a quiet individual and may not have the boldness to stand for your rights. You may be trampled upon, cheated and so on, because you are just being you (the person who doesn’t want troubles, fights or quarrels). As a result of that, you will actually need someone who can strengthen your weaknesses. Someone who is like you cannot achieve this; you need an opposite but even this this opposite wants it his or her own way. This may not be a good idea for you but you just have to learn the act of tolerance. This way, you will be able to note when some acts can be overlooked and when some must be worked on.
When you find yourself in an environment—school, market, church, etc—it is very important that you try as much as possible to study the lifestyle of every individual within the vicinity. This simple practice will help you know those you should talk to and those you should simply avoid. Doing this, you will minimize the amount of time and energy which would be spent on the wrong individual, either by quarrelling, fighting and so on.
One may likely ask; how can I study a person’s lifestyle?
It is simple! If you have the basic knowledge of the four temperaments—choleric, sanguine, melancholy and phlegmatic—you will automatically know their weaknesses and strengths, what makes them happy or sad, their likes and dislikes, etc. This in turn, will enable you to adapt fully with anyone, having known why they act in a particular way. When this simple act is carried out, there will be a massive decline in the rate at which humans engage in unnecessary conflicts. The knowledge of temperaments indeed, is a life saving mechanism.
